[FAQ] Animation Data Is Disappearing
📂 Fast-Ref Animation Data Loss Prevention & Workflow Guide
1. Issue Identification
- Situation: When loading files through Fast-Ref (Load/Add), animation data that was included in the original rigging file disappears.
2. Reference Pipeline Guide (Best Practice)
As a best practice, rigging source files and animation data should be managed separately as shown below.
| Category | Rigging Source (Rig) | Animation File (Ani) |
| Animation Data | X (Empty) | O (Data Included) |
| Rigging Link Status | Source File | Rigging file is Linked |
💡 Note: Given the nature of game animation production in 3ds Max, this reference-based pipeline approach may feel unfamiliar or differ from your existing workflow. This structure is designed for efficient collaboration, so please refer to the solutions below.

3. Root Cause
This issue is a data structure conflict caused by animation key values being included in the rigging source data.
- Details: Fast-Ref automatically performs animation clean-up when loading rigging files to maintain an optimal state. If the source file contains test animations, it may cause algorithmic confusion and result in data loss.
4. Solution
✅ Solution A: Clean Up Rigging Source Data (Recommended)
- Please remove unnecessary test animations from the rigging source file whenever possible. This is the best way to maintain a clean data structure.
✅ Solution B: Temporarily Disable Auto Clean-Up Option
- Uncheck Auto CleanUp Animation in [Option] → **[General Option]**.
- However, this setting should only be used as a one-time measure when data preservation is needed. It is recommended to re-enable it for optimization during regular use.

✅ Solution C: Data Preservation via [CONVERT] Feature
- By converting existing animation files using the [CONVERT] feature and then replacing the rigging file, you can safely preserve animation data.
